No need to mess up the election calendar. That was President Aquino’s reaction on Tuesday to a suggestion from Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. that the barangay (village) elections set by law for October this year be postponed to either next year or to 2015.
Although he said he had not been fully apprised of Brillantes’ suggestion, Aquino recalled that proposals for postponing the barangay polls had been anchored on the need to synchronize all elections.

No guarantee 2 Noy bets to become Senate chief |
|
Tuesday, 21 May 2013 00:31 |
|
By Angie M. Rosales, Tribune
There is no assurance in the administration coalition securing a stronghold on the leadership of the Senate when the 16th Congress opens in July, as neither of the two supposed frontrunners, Senators Franklin Drilon and Alan Peter Cayetano, is, at this time, already certain of mustering the needed numbers, or the required 13 votes from senators.
Cayetano’s own partymate in the Nacionalista Party (NP), reelected Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, has been vocal in supporting Drilon over Cayetano, while an incoming member noted the fact that even if the recently-concluded senatorial race was dominated by candidates from Team PNoy, the ranks of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in the upper chamber would increase by only one, in the person of Senator-elect Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino as he’s the lone administration party candidate who won in the polls.

The Alaska Aces won it the right way |

By Carlo Pamintuan, GMA News
We’ve seen it too many times in the past. Big market teams take talents from smaller market teams. Powerhouse ball clubs clean out the roster of a franchise on its way out of the PBA. We’ve seen up-and-coming talents traded for journeymen. We’ve seen potentially good rookies uprooted from the teams that drafted them.
We’ve also seen those teams winning championship after championship. But with the Alaska Aces' sweep of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, we’ve also seen that one-sided trades and blockbuster deals are not the only paths to a championship.

By Jefferson Antiporda, Manila Times
TO squelch rumors that he has lupus, Vice President Jejomar Binay will undergo medical examination by a team of physicians assembled by the Philippine Medical Association.
Binay hopes the result of the tests would stop reports that he is afflicted with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), the same disease that afflicted former president Ferdinand Marcos. With SLE, the immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue leading to inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.
