Vice-President Jejomar Binay and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, former rivals in the 2010 vice-presidential race, are now working together to help thousands of informal settlers living in danger zones in Metro Manila.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Francisco Fernandez said President Aquino has delegated DILG Secretary Mar Roxas to lead the relocation of thousands of informal settler families in Metro Manila since it involves several government agencies.

Amid media reports in Saudi Arabia that the Kingdom may extend by another three months its amnesty for “illegal” migrant workers, the Philippine government was urged nonetheless to prepare contingency measures should the Saudis decide against another 90-day grace period.
The amnesty granted by King Abdullah for all ‘illegal’ migrant workers in the Kingdom, including the estimated 22,000 undocumented overseas Filipino workers, ends July 3, barely 16 days to go, migrant rights group Migrante said Monday.

The Philippines and Taiwan have “agreed in principle” to avoid the use of force in fishing disputes, as they begin to resolve a row over the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman in overlapping waters last month.
Officials of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Teco) reached the agreement during their preparatory meeting on fishery cooperation held in Manila on Friday, Meco Chairman Amadeo Perez said on Sunday.

It is still possible for the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to sign a final peace agreement within the next five weeks, the Aquino administration’s chief peace negotiator said on Sunday.
A final agreement that would end 40 years of conflict in Muslim Mindanao has been delayed for six months, which the MILF blames on the government’s taking too long to decide on the last terms for the establishment of a new autonomous region on the island.

No new survivors; divers fail to find sunken ferry |

Navy divers have failed to find the seven missing passengers of the ferry M/V Our Lady of Mt. Carmel that sank off Burias Island in Masbate Friday with 70 people on board.
Sixty-one of those on board have been rescued, 39 of them passengers and 22 crew members, officials said. The bodies of two fatalities have been recovered.

The head negotiator of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) has said they would rather wait for the next Philippine president to take power before returning to the negotiating table for peace.
“If the Aquino government continues to refuse, then the NDFP continues with revolutionary struggles throughout the country and is willing to wait out the three years left of the Aquino regime,” Luis Jalandoni, NDFP chief peace negotiator, said in a video interview done by ‘Liberation International’, the NDFP official news organ.
