Philippine officials have advised thousands of Filipino workers to “limit their movement” in Taiwan, fearing a potentially violent backlash over the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Antonio Basilio, resident representative of Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) in Taiwan, issued the advisory following a reported upsurge of attacks on some of the 87,000 Filipinos working in Taipei, Malacañang said Sunday.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile would definitely lose his post when the 16th Congress opens in July but the tussle for the top post would likely result in a crack in the alliance of President Aquino in the Senate as the successor to the post will be a toss-up between Senators Franklin Drilon of the Liberal Party (LP) and Alan Peter Cayetano of the Nacionalista Party (NP), Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said yesterday.
Santiago, however, noted the need first for the so-called intramural within the administration coalition to be ironed out to assure the coherence of the Palace allies in taking over the upper chamber leadership.

Taiwan Sunday repeated calls for a joint investigation into the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by Philippine coastguards, an incident which has ignited a major diplomatic dispute.
A team of Taiwanese investigators returned to the island Saturday, accusing the Philippine government of failing to honor its agreement to conduct a joint probe.

The Alaska Aces are once again the kings of the PBA. The Aces used a crippling run late in the fourth quarter to break the game wide open and sweep their best-of-five Commissioner's Cup Finals series against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 104-80, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Alaska won game one by a score of 87-70, and triumphed in game two by a margin of 104-90, en route to their 14th championship in the PBA.

The SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team is the defending champion of the annual Taiwan tournament, which is crucial for the buildup for the FIBA Asia Championship in August. Last year, led by tournament Most Valuable Player LA Tenorio, the Philippines won the Jones Cup for the first time in 14 years.

LA Tenorio was named Best Player of the 2013 PBA Commissioner's Cup, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, in a short ceremony prior to game three of the Alaska Aces versus Barangay Ginebra Finals clash.
The starting point guard of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings was second in the statistical race behind Alaska's Calvin Abueva, but he won most of the votes from the PBA, the media, and the other players.

Brillantes said the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, will come up with "amendatory rules" to speed up the canvassing of votes for the party-list elections.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) wants 10 areas in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in the proposed Bangsamoro region.
In a statement, the office of Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras identified the areas as communities in Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Zamboanga Sibugay, South Cotabato, Davao Oriental, North Cotabato, Lanao del Norte, and Maguindanao.

It’s payback time. Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes yesterday said he will settle a score with automated election critics who undermined the recent midterm elections.
“They made our life difficult. Now, they should watch out how I get payback,” Brillantes said. He said that although the Comelec will no longer pursue a legal suit against the Automated Elections System (AES) Watch, he would expose the people behind the group once the poll body has proclaimed the winning party-list groups.
